Taking place this week at KAP Europa in Frankfurt, Germany, from 27 to 28 November 2024, end users, institutions, entrepreneurs and companies from the Earth observation sector will come together to discuss the commercial potentials and challenges of the fast-growing Earth observation commercial space sector.

The ESA Earth Observation Commercialisation Forum (ESA CommEO) is a collaborative initiative by ESA's Earth Observation Programme along with the Commercialisation, Industry and Competitiveness directorate to foster the commercialisation of Earth observation space technologies and services.

The event is an important part of ESA's broader strategy to enhance the economic return from Earth observation investments to ensure that space technology contributes to sustainable economic growth. 09:00-10:35 ? Opening Session (ESA WebTV One)

The event will open with welcome messages from ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher, along with ESA Director of Earth Observation Programmes, Simonetta Cheli, and Géraldine Naja, Director of Commercialisation, Industry and Competitiveness. They will be joined by DLR, European institutions, industry representatives, investors and a NASA spokesperson.

11:05-11:25 ? Keynote speech (ESA WebTV Two)

Keynote speech from Alexander MacDonald, Chief Economist at NASA, on ?Earth Observation Commercialisation and Climate Leadership in a Changing World.'

11:25-13:00 ? The EO Worldwide Market (ESA WebTV Two)

A discussion of the market status and trends, with contributions from ESA, trade organisations and key experts, focused on non-European regions such as North America and Asia.

14:15-16:15 ? Green and Sustainable Future opportunities for the EO Industry (ESA WebTV Two)

A discussion from the end-user perspective about what is needed from Earth observation technologies, in synergy with other data industries, to address Earth Action and Green and Sustainable Future for human and planet prosperity.

16:45-17:05 ? The CommEO Award (ESA WebTV Two)

Innovative and promising Earth observation start-ups will pitch their business ideas and compete for the ESA CommEO Award.

09:00-10:00 ? The EO journey: from Industry to Investors

Focus on addressing the companies' perspective and approach to investors, their journey, how the company needs to adapt their model, and what are the current challenges - namely, growth capital, scalable business cases and institutional support.

10:00-10:50 ? The EO investor perspective

This session will address the private and public investors' perspectives, answering questions such as ?Why do they invest in Earth observation?', ?What are investors looking for?', and ?What are the challenges?', followed by a presentation about the ESA Investor Platform.

11:20-12:10 ? Institutional demand for commercial EO

This session will discuss demand coming from governmental needs and how this could constitute a boost for Earth observation commercialisation.

12:10-13:00 ? ESA CommEO approach towards CM25

Enabler, partner and customer roles of ESA for Earth observation focusing on: value added by ESA, complementarity with partners/stakeholders and linking with final customers and/or regulators. High-level introduction of different programmes addressing the above, scale of funding and the basic engagement criteria.

14:15-15:45 ? Towards European leadership of the global EO commercial market

In this panel discussion, representatives from the European Commission, ESA, ESA Member State Delegates, industry and investors, together with the forum participants, will address the question, 'How do we stimulate consistent growth in Europe to become the worldwide Earth observation commercial leader?'
