MOLNIYA 1-56, also known as Molniya-1, is a communication satellite launched by GUKOS on March 16, 1983, from the PLMSC launch site using a Molniya 8K78M launch vehicle. It was manufactured by NPOPM and designed with a configuration known as KAUR-2, measuring 4.4 meters in length, 1.4 meters in diameter, and having a span of 8.6 meters. The satellite has a dry mass of 1620 kilograms and a launch mass of 1650 kilograms. Its power supply consists of six deployable solar arrays and batteries, while its propulsion system includes the KDU-414A (S5.114) motor. MOLNIYA 1-56 was intended to operate for about two years and features a shape described as Cyl + 6 Pan with an RCS of 14.522. The satellites primary mission is communication, carrying the Molniya-1K No. 65L payload.
