The COSMOS 2079 [GLONASS] satellite, also known as Kosmos-2079, was launched on May 19, 1990, from the TYMSC launch site using a Proton-K/DM-2 launch vehicle from LC200/40. This navigation satellite has a configuration of 3-axis stabilization and is part of the Uragan series. It measures 4 meters in length with a diameter of 1.5 meters and spans 7.8 meters when its components are deployed. The satellites dry mass is approximately 1200 kilograms, and it had a launch mass of 1300 kilograms. Its power system includes two deployable solar arrays and batteries. Manufactured by POL in the Soviet Union (SU), COSMOS 2079 carried Uragan No. 46L as its payload and was designed for a lifetime of three years.
