DIRECTV 5 (also known as TEMPO 1 or DirecTV 5) is a communication satellite built by LOR and owned by DTV. Launched on May 7, 2002, from the TYMSC launch site using a Proton-K/DM-2M launch vehicle, it operates with a configuration based on the SSL-1300 bus design. The satellite has dimensions of 5.6 meters in length and 2.8 meters in diameter, with a span of 31 meters due to its solar arrays. It was launched with a mass of 3,640 kilograms and has a dry mass of approximately 2,000 kilograms. Equipped with 32 Ku-band transponders for communication purposes, the satellite powers itself using two deployable solar arrays and batteries. Its shape is described as a box with two panels, and its reflectivity (RCS) value is 12.5892 square meters. The mission of DIRECTV 5 is to provide communication services, supported by its payload named DirecTV-5.
