GALAXY 23 (G-23), also known as Echostar IX, is a communication satellite operated by ECHO for direct broadcasting purposes. It was launched on August 8, 2003, from Sea Launch using the Zenit-3SL launch vehicle. The spacecraft has dimensions of 5.6 meters in length and 2.8 meters in diameter with a span of 31 meters, equipped with two Ka-band, thirty-two Ku-band, and twenty-four C-Band transponders. Manufactured by LOR using the SSL-1300 bus configuration, it has a dry mass of 2,000 kg and a launch mass of 4,737 kg. The satellite is powered by two deployable solar arrays and batteries and is designed for a mission lifetime of fifteen years.
