IRIDIUM 172, also known as Iridium Next SV172, is a communication and traffic monitoring satellite manufactured by NGISGA for IRIDS (Iridium). It was launched on January 11, 2019, from AFWTR SLC4E using the Falcon 9 launch vehicle. The satellite has dimensions of 3.1 meters in length, 1.5 meters in diameter, and a span of 9.4 meters. Its configuration is ELiTeBus-1000 with a BUS type of EliteBus. It carries an L-band payload, Ka-band cross-links, downlinks, ADS-B payload, and AIS-receiver among other equipment. The satellite has a dry mass of 700 kg and launch mass of 860 kg. Its power system includes two deployable solar arrays and batteries. The designed lifetime is 10 years with plans for a 15-year operation.
