Graduated from Kharkov Military School of Aviation, 1975; graduated from Gagarin Air Force Academy, Monino, 1987; Lieutenant General, Russian Air Force, Ret. (in Dezember 2009); was selected as cosmonaut on 26.03.1987 (TsPK-8); OKP (cosmonaut basic training): 12/87 - 6/89; resigned from active duty on 25.12.1997; since 19.08.1998 Deputy Commander of the 1st department, TsPK and since 06.04.2000 successor of Yuri Glazkov as Deputy Commander TsPK; by decree of the President of the Russian Federation from September 9, 2003 he was appointed as Chief of Cosmonaut Training Centre TsPK.
