CUBICS teams visit CSA

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) recently welcomed 23 representatives from the nine CUBICS teams for a week of learning activities and hands-on workshops with CSA experts.
The students, who are designing and building their own CubeSats, attended lectures on electrical testing and satellite operations, as well as demonstrations of vibration and thermal testing. They also participated in hands-on training sessions on printed circuit board (PCB) soldering and electrical assembly.

The students had the chance to meet with CSA astronaut David Saint-Jacques for a Q&A discussion, and their week ended with a presentation of all CUBICS projects to CSA employees during a poster session.

The announcement of opportunity for CUBICS was posted in fall 2022. In the spring of 2023, the CSA awarded nine grants representing $3.15 million over three years to nine Canadian post-secondary institutions to advance space science and technology while training the next generation of space experts. All projects selected aim to help increase scientific knowledge to better understand climate change. The CubeSats are set to launch into space in 2026.
