SES-2 is a communication satellite operated by SESSL, manufactured by OSCD and launched on September 21, 2011, from ELA3 launch pad at the Guiana Space Center using an Ariane 5ECA launch vehicle. The spacecraft has dimensions of 4.9 meters in length, 2.3 meters in diameter, with a span of 23.6 meters and a dry mass of 1500 kg. It was fueled for more than 16 years with a planned lifetime of 15 years. SES-2 is equipped with 24 active C-band transponders, 24 Ku-band transponders, and 2 Ka-band transponders (CHIRP on #2 only), powered by two deployable solar arrays and batteries. The satellite has an RCS of 9.3468, a box shape plus two panels for additional surface area, and is used primarily for communication purposes.
